Steel City is about a block from my house. Naturally, I visit often. Their menu is much more than just pizza. They offer a wide variety of apps, salads, sandwiches, calzones and my favorite - wedgies. They are slap your mom good. (Not that I'm going to slap your mom) Perhaps even better than their food is the staff. They are all friendly, quick on their feet and make it a point to remember you. You don't find that everywhere. If you're in the mood for a good neighborhood restaurant with cold beer, good pizza and great staff - this is the place for you.

So confession time...I've been to Steel City on numerous occasions, and I have yet to actually eat any pizza. I'm not sure why other than I was really intrigued by the Weggies they have on their menu at my first visit. I tried the Chicken Philly Weggie and fell in food love. Each time I've gone back I've wanted to try a new Weggie...and I'm almost through the entire Weggie menu at this point. So what is a Weggie? Well they don't do a good job of explaining what it is on their menu so I'll take a crack at it. What they do is bake what appears to be about an 8in dia. round pizza crust, then fold it in half so it resembles the shape of a calzone and stuff it with whatever filling you ask for. It's kind of like an open calzone or really large taco made out of pizza crust. However you call it, it is delicious! The best one I've had so far is the first one, the Chicken Philly (which you can also get I'm regular sandwich form). Other honorable mentions are the Mediterranean Chicken and the Greek. I've tried all of them except the Original and the Godfather. I was not a fan of the Weggidilla. I thought it tasted rather bland and the BBQ sauce was sickly sweet. They do make the Weggies to order so they do take at least 15 minutes to make. As for the restaurant itself, they have a bar and tons of TVs, and even a game room do you can kills some time on pinball it arcade games until your Weggie is cooked. The entire place is covered in Steelers stuff so if you understand the following words or phrases: Dahntahn, Giant Iggle, terble tahl, jagoff, or yinz - you need to get yer dupa to Steel City.

Went to our monthly WOW get together. It was four of us. When I arrived we were already seated. The waiter was attentive and served us quickly. I just ordered a grill chicken salad. Everybody else ordered calzones. Everybody loved Their calzones. My salad was ok. The chicken was good. Didn't like the iceberg lettuce. Had a couple of beers. Great place and nice atmosphere.

We had spent a day at the beach and wanted to pick up a quick pizza on the way home. We saw Steel City and decided to stop in. We sat down at the bar, placed our pizza order (pepperoni) and ordered one beer each. Our bartender seemed peeved to be working. She began to pour our beers and then walked away before filling the second glass. Eventually a new bartender came over and finished pouring the second glass. When our pizza was finally ready, we were disappointed. It wasn't bad but nothing we will seek out again.

Love their food!! Order for pick up quite often. Do wish they would include plastic ware with your order.

If I could give less than one star for this place I would. The people working there were super helpful and nice but what we got was a sorry excuse for a product. We ordered a medium Italian market pizza, 10 wings, and two drinks. Instead what we got was a mediocre 12" (normally a small at every other pizza place) pizza that I took two bites of and couldn't finish. It tasted like the cheese was bad or something like that. However the wings and drinks were fine. What got me was the price. What we ordered was not worth the 35$ and what we got was ABSOLUTELY not worth it at all. Very disappointed.

Tasty pizza! Crust is not too thick and not too thin- just how I like it :) spinach dip appetizer was really good. Very rich but delicious. Waitress was ok, she didn't clear our empty appetizer or plates until the end of the meal.

I would have loved to give this place 5 stars, but the gentleman who seated us put the worst taste in my mouth. Visiting IOP from Pittsburgh, we were so ecstatic to find a Pittsburgh themed restaurant in the area! We obviously had to check it out. When we walked in we mentioned we were from Pittsburgh and the man who sat us pointed to his hat and said "I'm a Giants fan". Thank you for pointing that out sir, but you work in a Pittsburgh bar/restaurant and if you know anyone from Pittsburgh you should know we love our city. And since you work in a Pittsburgh restaurant, you should certainly know that. So we were pretty annoyed right away as he was the least friendliest person we encountered on our trip. Our server was more pleasant than the first man, but again, did not care that we were from Pittsburgh. We thought we would be welcome with open arms and get to talk about Pittsburgh. I mean our last name is Heinz, how much more Pittsburgh can you get! However, the memorabilia all over the restaurant was great and it was neat to check out. It would just be cool if the staff knew at least to greet us with "hey yinz"! Now on to the food. SO GOOD!!!! Seriously, go here. The buffalo chicken dip had celery in it, which I am not a fan of, but it was big enough to pick out and the dip itself was delicious. The wedgies were out of this world. I'm seriously sad I can't get my hands on them at any time. I love a BLT wedgie from back home, so I asked if they could create one and boy did they deliver. It was better than the one at home! The rest of my table loved theirs as well - the weggiedilla, Carson Street Gyro Wedgie (love the name and why it's named that!), and a calzone. Even though we weren't impressed with our welcoming, our waitress turned out to be great and the food was better than we expected! Definitely recommend to visitors and locals!

Awesome place! The wedgies are huge. I had the buffalo chicken wedgie. Great place to take kids too. Our server was very friendly and knew his music trivia, lol.

Apparently I put the idea of pizza into my Dad's head because he refused to get anything else for dinner. Drove by this place a few times while on vacation in Charleston, so we decided to check it out. I'm a Clevelander, so I had my misgivings about the place, but I decided to give pizza a chance. We were seated quickly at around dinner time during a Wednesday. I had a few Citra Pale ales while my Dad and brother ordered Yeunglings. Drinks came out quickly and we ordered food after the first round. We got a large pizza, the Italian Meat Market I think, to share between the three of us. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. No long wait, but it was the wrong pizza. We informed the waitress and she grabbed someone who I believe was the manager. He had three slices of the pizza we ordered brought out in short order and had the correct pizza brought out a few minutes after that. This more than made up for the mistake. The pizza itself was great. We finished all but 3 slices, so it's safe to say that we would have finished the whole pizza if not for the extra 3 slices given to us. Reasonably priced, good pizza, good service... I'd go back again.

Went here with the family on Sunday night, late. We came in about an hour and a half before closing. They were prompt in seating us, and we figured things would go fast here because there were very few people in the place and there were servers just kind of milling around. Server got our drink order promptly, and then disappeared for about 25 minutes. After we almost walked out, she took our order. This was not a complicated order, 3 slices of pizza, one sub, two salads. At the hour point (after asking our server to check on this about 20 minutes after we ordered), we were informed that our order had been "lost". Which would have been a valid excuse if there were more than 15 people in the place. But there were 10, and we made up 6 of them. Then the order came out, and it was wrong. The manager offered to discount the meal 25%. When we got our bill, they hadn't applied the discount. Took another 20 minutes to sort that out. We closed the place, when we had no intention to. As for the food, it was decent. Once you factor in the wait time and the mess up, this place does not rate so highly in the "opportunity cost" factor. The pizza was league average, but there are so many other options around that do it as well or better. I could have gone to Andolini's and gotten a better slice. The sub was fine, a little overdone on the steak and the portion wasn't what I expected, significantly smaller. The salads looked palatable. All in all, there are better places to get this same cuisine, at the same or better price point in the area.

We visited here on St. Patrick's Day last month, and I really wish we had stuck to traditional Irish fare on said evening. Steel City Pizza Co is just.. meh. Nothing remarkable about it. The salads are all the same, just add or subtract an ingredient or two. The pizza was alright, but short of remarkable. Service at the bar left a lot to be desired unfortunately. This place has potential, but needs a fair amount of work.

Steel City Pizza Company has been our favorite go-to neighborhood place for 'cheap eats' since we moved to Mt. P from Baltimore, 2 years ago because, frankly, we really like the food ... it's fresh, made to order and a good value. The menu is typical 'bar' standards including, but not limited to, your typical apps, wings, large salads, Philadelphia style sandwiches, wraps, hand tossed calzones, pizzas and Weggies - their humungous signature Sammie (a themed combination of meats, cheeses, veggies, maybe a sauce, etc., stuffed into pizza dough that is baked crispy and golden and cut into 2 wedges. The platter includes fries. Sweet potato fries or side salad are available for a surcharge. I ordered a small ala carte Caesar, $3.25, to start. My husband and I each ordered a Weggie. My selection was the Mediterranean Chicken, described as,"Marinated chicken breast, roasted red pepper, kalamata olives, a blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses baked in a Parmesan oregano crusted dough, then stuffed with fresh spinach, red onion, tomsto and a Greek feta vinaigrette dressing." I'm not kidding ... it's all there ... and tons of hot. crisp fries, I ate all the fries, then struggled to finish one half. (I boxed the remainder). It was dreamy! My hub ordered the Godfather Weggie - their #1 seller, as he had enjoyed it numerous times before and includes, "Old world pepperoni and tavern ham, hard salami, capicola, their blend of Parmesan and mozzarella cheese with Provolone, lettuce, tomato and homemade dressing." He also ordered fries. From the first bite, oil started dripping out the sides of his first wedge and landed on the plate or saturated the dough on the remaining half, waiting to be eaten. He was not happy ... I was embarrassed for this poor man trying to eat this oily mess with some sense of dignity. He actually made the server aware; however, neither the manager. nor chef/cook followed up at our table. Sure, he ate every morsel ... but the entire sandwich was ruined, overpowered by the greasy dressing. We are disappointed, to say the least, and not sure when we will return. .

I ain't no Pittsburgh fan, but Steel City Pizza has it going on when it comes to pizza. I highly doubt that is how pizza tastes in Pittsburgh. We have tried several dishes here and a few I recommend are the Godfather sandwich, Ultimate White pie, Steel City Special pie, and of course the soon to be world famous Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza. I tell you that I was skeptical about getting a pizza that was made with cheeseburger ingredients; but this thing would make Jimmy Buffet change his some song Cheeseburger in Paradise to Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza in Paradise. It is just that good! Steel City offer a nice selection of rotating cold draft beers on tap and a heap more in the coolers, some very nice craft beer selections; in addition to a full service bar. The drinks here are strong and they are just what the doctor ordered. Service here can't be beat. We always sit at the bar and we have always been taken very well care of. Steel City is our go to spot when we are out and looking for some pie. They also offer free delivery in the area as well.

I went here when visiting Charleston and was told "you have to try the weggies! They are like pizza sandwiches" I was intrigued since crust is often my favorite part of pizza (for real- I will rip the cheese and toppings off and just eat the crust. Especially if there is a bubble in the crust. Anyways...) I ordered the buffalo chicken weggie and fries. The weggie was awesome! It was stuffed with grilled chicken, hot sauce, tomato and onion. The portion size was huge! I couldn't finish it, despite my best efforts. The fries were just okay and I only ate one. However, the star of the show was definitely the weggie. I didn't order alcohol but another person at my table did and seemed pleased with his beer. Also, the order came out wrong on someone's food. It took awhile to get the attention of the waiter but when we did, he apologized and had it fixed. I would definitely recommend this place!

I had a craving for a sausage sandwich...I know, I don't eat meat much, but I listen to the body! I Yelped to find the best place in the area for Italian, and Steel City was on top. The servers were fun, the place was clean and lively, prices were reasonable, and the food? We had the Weggies - sandwiches using pizza dough wrapped around like a sub and baked - we had the meatball and the sausage weggies, loaded with very good sauce and cheese - delicious! I can't wait to try their pizza and pasta. This was part of our Discovery series to investigate restaurants to take family and friends to when visiting and this is certainly added to the list.

Came in for the first time in a while. The entire inside has been completely redone. There's now a bar high top area next to a big windowed garage door. Thought it would be cool if I could be served there, but was told its for people to wait when they are busy, makes sense. In the past when it's busy and I picked up there were always people waiting to be seated right in front of the bar pick up area which was frustrating. The prices have gone up, but not too much and they've taken a lot of things off of the menu. The service was great this time around. I think our waiters name was kevin. He was very friendly and had a pens jersey on which was neat since this is a Pittsburgh restaurant. The food was good. I ordered the weggiedilla, which is like a quesadilla but in pizza dough instead of a tortilla. Their pizza is pretty good too. I recommend this place over some of the other pizza places I've been to. Everything is fresh and made to order.

Just moved to Mt P and Steel City is right around the corner. This is a good and bad thing. Good because it's super convenient on a night when you're craving a fresh pizza. Bad for the same reason. I don't need good pizza to be so convenient to me, no self-control!! We ordered delivery - then when I was told it'd be an hour I asked if I could switch to takeout instead because I was starving! The guy on the phone was accommodating and polite. Got the Steel City Special, which is basically a supreme with sausage, pepperoni, peppers, onions and mushrooms. The toppings were delicious, the crust was just thick enough to where you are able to hold the slice but not chew on dough for 20 minutes. We were definitely happy with our first pizza joint choice in our new city, and can't wait to try more combinations. They also have weggies, salads and wings.... Can't wait til it's warm enough to sit on the patio and have some beer and wings!

I ordered online delivery, and it arrived a little earlier than the website said it would; it assigns a 15 minute time frame to your order. That time slot was over an hour away, which I guess is OK for a Saturday night. The pizza was good; I've had better, and I've had much worse. Unfortunately, my stomach didn't like it as much as my taste buds did. I did NOT get sick from it, but I paid for it for a couple of days, so I won't be ordering from them again.

At the recommendation of the Boardwalk Inn Concierge, We ordered pizza from Steel City Pizza at 6:27 PM. The person on the phone said it was a little busy and that it might be an hours. We were not in a hurry so that was fine. However, the pizza did not arrive until 8:57 PM. 2 1/2 hrs after ordering it!!! We called twice to inquire about the delivery and each time they said that it was on the way. No apologies or accurate information. Horrible!! Would not recommend!

My husband and i have had lunch twice. They have a philly cheese steak that is so yummy I can't even describe it to you. It is tender, flavorful and the cheese reaches from your mouth to the sandwich with a stretched out arm. Their burgers are good. They made a meatball sub for me even though it was not on the menu and it was delicious. We have been met with a hello and smile both times. I didn't have one, but the pizzas were served on a platform with a pizza knife. Very attractive. Maybe next time.

Visiting Charleston with my boyfriend and saw that this spot had good ratings so we figured we'd check it out. The service is great and we were seated very quickly. I ordered a cheese calzone and it was really bland. I asked for extra ricotta and instead got none, but was too hungry to send it back. My boyfriend ordered the mega meaty pizza and the crust was extremely overdone and very crispy. The toppings were clumped together and in his words "tasted like cardboard". Definitely nothing to write home about :/

We've eaten at Steel City many times and the food is ok. However, we won't go back because of the poor treatment we received on our last visit. This is Not a place to go to watch football unless you want to watch the Steelers, despite the oversized every game, every week banner the restaurant posts out front. Asking to have one of the 13 TVs changed to another game isn't a reasonable request according to their management. So better food, better service is where our party of 9 will be.

Not sure how long this place will last, but I'm glad to be FTR. I loved the pizza, being from NE Ohio. It reminds me of the pizzas I grew up on. When I'm down here permanently, I hope this place is still in business. We got a pizza with just about everything. The crust was not thin, but not thick. The pizza was cooked to perfection. The toppings were fresh. We sat at the bar and had a Holy City brew on tap while it was being made. We took it home. There's plenty of seating in the place if you wanna chill and watch the TVs. And the best part....they have IC and IC Light (bottles only, no draft). Very cool.

We stumbled on Steel City Pizza when we saw a older GPS report a Guiseppe's Pizza. Not sure on the background of Steel City but they have a very similar if not the same menu as Guiseppe's would have. We got carry out and it took over 35 minutes as the pizza line was backed up. It was a Saturday night but we were originally told 20-25 minutes. Food was good but one of our pizzas was pretty blackened on one side. I am a big weggie fan and that lived up to expectations. The Chicken Club weggie was abundant with chicken pieces.

Okay .. If you dine in good atmosphere. Etc.. Hate that they don't have any loyalty or frequent customer deals.but anyway I like to order delivery and this is always been iffy . Fries suck of course when delivered , pasta salad it's okay not great or crappy bag of chips.. Anyways overall the main courses pretty good .. Really got irritated bc despite of time of deliver problems and sides I always still seem to order delivery as a last resort for something little different. Tonight Craving just a baked spaghetti . They have a baked Penni which was would cool but just wanted regular noodles or for instance a baked chicken parm. Without the chicken and they couldn't do that. How difficult would that have been. I mean really just change the noodles . Really pissed me off after going to them for over a year. Never again . So instead got some sandwiches on the way .. And much rather of been cheaper and better of walking next door to jersey mikes or jimmy Johns instead if I wanted a sandwich...and would have been quicker and least better choice of chips.. Anyway I'm just baffled..

Ordered 2 pizzas to be delivered a few weeks ago. Our guaranteed delivery time was 5:21pm (an hour after we ordered) Pizzas did not arrive until after 6- cold and gross. We had guests in town who wanted pizza and we had pizza from Steel City before and thought it was good. What an embarrassment! For the price you pay at Steel City you would expect better pizza- go elsewhere.

I've eaten here numerous times and it has proven itself to be one of my favorite places to eat. The Loaded Chicken Philly is absolutely amazing. The sweet tea is brewed to perfection every time. Their fries are crispy, light, and not oily. The wedgie sandwiches are unlike anything I've ever eaten. They are amazing. My favorites are the meatball, the chicken Philly, and the chicken club. I've never had the pizza although I've heard it's pretty decent. The atmosphere is good, not too loud, good outdoor seating, and good lighting. HD TV's abound inside buy not too intrusive. Service is decent. Most are friendly. Speed of food to table is mediocre. It takes time to make the wedgies so prepare for a bit of a wait. It takes, on average, about 15-20 min. to get food to the table. Bathroom is usually clean which is great. There is a video game room for kids.

Went there on a recommendation from a friend. Friendly staff, fast service. Chicken wings came hot & tasty. The Godfather Wedgie was delish! Awesome place!

We are disappointed, to say the least, and not sure when we will return. .

I don't know about the rest of the menu, I only get the meat lovers pizza and it's the best I have had in Charleston. I will go there again and again, once my diet is over...

I have been here a few times and I love the weggies and the fresh, warm fries it comes with. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Mt Pleasant. Can't wait for the next visit as I will be sure to stop here again.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
